EYRST, a new record label based in Portland OR, was born from the desire to showcase art being created in the Northwest, to a larger global audience. Applying a nonconventional approach to help their artists express themselves in the most complete manner possible; EYRST offers services that encompass both visual and auditory platforms… EYRST aims to empower and inspire, through a unified and tangible approach.”

Once I read the mission statement above, I was immediately a fan of new Portland-based music label, EYRST. It’s just so very #OutHere, there is no way WOHM could not be on board! That said, we’re extremely happy to announce our support of the upcoming launch party at Holocene this Thursday, July 16th, which will feature live performances by label artists Myke Bogan, Ripley Snell, Blossom, Neill Von Tally and NBA swingman Martell Webster. The official launch party will also include special announcements, exclusive guest accompaniments and live DJ sets from Lamar Leroy and Justin Longerbeam.

Martell Webster - by Devin Tolman

“This event means more than words can express,” says EYRST artist and co-founder Martell Webster. “All the people involved with the EYRST journey believe in something much bigger than just us, which is why connecting with the community is such a focal point to our journey. Without the people, our community, we are nothing.”

Humble words from a ten-year veteran of the NBA. The Seattle native, drafted out of high school by the Trailblazers, currently plays for the Washington Wizards but still spends his off-season time in the Portland Metro Area. It also turns out that music is his medicine. Teaming with Seattle-born / Portland raised producer Neill Von Tally, the two decided in 2014 to start a label, and in just one busy year, they have done just that.

Focusing on socially conscious and individual artists, EYRST brought on Von Tally’s long-time friend and rapper / coffee enthusiast Ripley Snell. Neo-soul singer and songwriter Blossom – originally from Trinidad & Tabago – adds a soft touch to the otherwise male-dominated rap-heavy roster. Perhaps the biggest addition to the team, however, is Northwest heavyweight Myke Bogan who’s undeniably catchy music continues to make waves across the country.

Myke Bogan - by Curtis Sekulich“This event, and EYRST, is a celebration of moving forward and making moves,” states the outspoken artist. “Signing to a label wasn’t part of the plan, but when you get to be yourself, and have a little help along the way, it means everybody grows. EYRST is an aid to independent artists… They get and understand how to help artists through the struggle and challenges of being in the industry. We can finally just focus on the art.”

Stay tuned to We Out Here Magazine throughout the week as we’ll have more about this exciting event, including an exclusive video interview. Plus, Myke Bogan will be taking over the WOHM Twitter the day of the party, and Martell himself will be tweeting from WOHM the day after with even more special announcements! #OutHere
