(Scroll down to see pics from the night taken by Andrew Roles)

I got off work early, left Salem at 3, stopped in Wilsonville for a drink (or 3) with a friend, picked up our Photographer Andrew, and arrived in Seattle just in time to watch the majority of Type’s set.

The show was on a Monday, which worked out great for me because Mondays are actually my Fridays.

For Neumos, it was a weekend of celebrating new music in Seattle. Blue Scholars had held release parties at for their album Cinemetropolis on the previous Friday and Saturday nights. On the night of my appearance Grieves was celebrating the release of his debut project with Rhymesayers, Together/Apart.

For me, it was time to catch up with old friends.

I’ve come to the realization that I am always more excited to see people than they are to see me. And I’m fine with that because even though they may not be as excited to see me as I am to see them they are more excited to see me because of how excited I am.

I had a few dollars in my pocket, #raplife, and I’m pretty sure I bought the majority of the upstairs bar at least one drink throughout the night. I’m not sure how many shots I ended up taking out of their quarter filled plastic cups, but most of them were Makers Mark.

It was nice seeing Seattle’s hip-hop community come out an support Grieve’s night as well. Macklemore, Geo, Sabzi, JFK, Grynch and Neema were all present, pleasant and shaking hands outside the venue from time to time.

At one point in the night I remember Geo of Blue Scholars giving me a warranted look of concern as I scurried through my wallet looking for the cash I had put in my pocket.

I was a mess.

Outside after the show I was chatting with Sapient, who had performed earlier in the evening. Sapient has a group called Debaser with another Sandpeople member Ethic. Many people say that Ethic looks like.

A young lady at the show began telling me she had seen me perform in Seattle before. I’ve never been recognized in Seattle but I have performed there in the past. So at first I assumed she knew who I was. It was only after she started giving me more details about the show that I realized she thought she was talking to Ethic.

I know I started laughing when I discovered the confusion, but I’m not sure if I took the time to correct her.

So Ethic, if you get an e-mail from a concerned citizen talking about how drunk you were on Monday night… Sorry.

I caught up with Sapient the day after the show to talk about his future plans to kill it.

Thanks Sapient!

Sapient: What’s up Ethic?

WOHM: (laughs) Yeah, that girl definitely thought I was Ethic.

So funny, whats good.

Just taking a break from mowing my long ass grass.

Same here, my lawn in the back is already getting tall again.

That’s a bad look. So how did you and Grieves first meet?

It was maybe, ’07 or ’08. Onry introduced us. Grieves was looking for some beats, and after that he met Budo and now they kind of do their thing. The beat he got from me he ended up using on Confessions of Mr. Modest. So that beat came out two or three years after he got it. But I met him a long time ago, and you already know how he’s just super nice and friendly. So I came out to some shows he did in Portland, and I’d also done some shows with him and Sandpeople in Seattle.

Gotcha. Who is a better producer you or Budo?

Me.

Who is a better rapper you or Grieves?

Me.

NICE! So you, by yourself, are better than Grieves and Budo.

Yeah, combined.

That’s a good look. You have super powers though.

Um…yeah. But so do they, so that’s not an advantage though.

Good point.

Yeah, I’m hella quick fool.

And you have the rock record that was coming out on Camobear Records, are you still putting that out?

Yeah, it’s just waiting on a lot of label stuff from Camobear. But the new tentative release date is February 2012.

Do you have other projects coming out before then?

Yeah. I’m starting a series called Eaters. It’s sort of like an instrumental project. I’m going to be doing some rapping on it but it’s mostly going to be beats. I’m trying to drop that in August, so I’m working on videos for some of those songs. I just got the final version so I’m going to drop that.

What song is the video for?

It’s for Grown Up.

Nice!

Yeah, so I have that going on. I have a couple other projects and some singles that I’m working on that are going to be coming out before Slump, the rock records.

So is the series you are doing going to be released online, or how is that going to work?

I’m going to have a more official announcement after the Grown Up video drops. But we’re going to drop some videos and do some limited edition, probably like 100 CDs, that are hand silk screened and you can get with some custom canvases that I’m painting.

That’s what’s up for sure. You have to be a lot more creative now if you want someone to buy a CD.

And with it being sort of like an instrumental album, I’m not really going to be going out and touring with it. So I’m not going to press up thousands of them, but if the first 100 go quick I’ll probably press up more. Just keeping it deluxe.

Are you still working on it?

I have the master done. I’m just listening to it. I might add a thing here or there because I have time before I have to send it in. But it’s done and I have two music videos. One is done already, and one is almost done. Its gonna be sick.

Are you working on anything more with the Prime?

Yeah, we already have so much material that’s already finished. We just kind of waiting, I’m not really in a big rush. We shopped it out at a few places, and some stuff might materialize from that.

How about Debaser? And I saw you guys were working on a new Sandpeople album right?

We’re working on it. Its going slowly but surely.

With Debaser, were going to do some new stuff but the timeline is kind of packed with my solo stuff right now.

How are you feeling today?

I’m feeling better than I was last night that’s for sure.

You were dot netting.

I was out there dot netting for sure. Neumos got dot netted for sure.

Yeah… You were being so funny fool.

What was I upto?

I don’t know. You were outside by Nykon, and you had not idea what he was talking about but you kept saying, “Pshhh, Yeah dude I know!”

Nice, just being an ass hole.

And then we walked in and Grieves and Budo were playing and you were like, “Naw, Weak! Weak!”

Nice. Showing mad love. Gotta Support Seattle…

Yeah. (laughs)
