Sodaville, Oregon is located right outside of Albany and has a total size of 0.3 square miles–which is approximately 20 acres, or 18 football fields.

The population of 300 elected a convicted felon as their mayor in 2008, and fired him this week for not showing up to meetings.

Based on his track record—Felony Possession Firearm, Grand Theft Auto, Possession of Methamphetamines, Assault, Eluding Police, Reckless Driving—the guy either listened to Brother Lynch Hung growing up or he drove a truck and hates everything about rap music.

The town received a lot of negative publicity after word about their new leader’s track record was released to the press. According to KATU News, many of the town’s citizens had no idea what kind of person they were voting for. Jackie Rutherford told them, “I know that people can change but it makes me feel uncomfortable.”

Not only did he change but he ended up winning a second (but short lived) term.

There is no law in Oregon against convicted Felons running for office, but it is against the law for them to vote.
