Friday is going to be a good day for Portland–sunshine, Party at the Crown Room, and the new Lean Team project.
The Lean Team (possibly a playoff the name of Lawzspoken and G. Force’s Green Team?) is a production team made up of Stewart Villain and DJ Fatboy.
Stewart Villain has come out from the shadows this year to become one of Portland’s premier producers. DJ Fatboy has been busy traveling the world as Kreayshawn’s DJ.
I’ve heard a few of the tracks that DIDN’T make that cut, and I’m excited to see what magic they’ve come up with for the project itself.

How are you doing today?
I’m good man. Knockin’ some Old Jay-z. Perfect for a cloudy day. Lol
Truth, the sun was out for the most part in Salem. I’ve been listening to a lot of Evidence lately. Seems like the older I get the more I like his albums.
Evidence is Crazy!! I need to listen to him more. I’ve been slippin’.
Who are your favorite artists out right now? As far as new people, or artists that have put albums out recently.
New artists? That is a good one. Meek Mill for sure, ASAP, Action Bronson is crazy too, I REALLY like that Joey badass kid too. There are too many. haha.
Haven’t checked out Joey yet, I’ll have to look into him. Who are some of your favorite artists you’ve worked with?
Guilty Simpson, TxE, Cassow, Jon Belz, Kung Foo Grip (I always spell that wrong lol) and Captain. And Frankly Esquire.
Kung Foo Grip is one of my favorite groups out right now. Really looking forward to hearing more from them. How did you link up with them?
I met them through my homie Kenny Fresh. He had me do a Remix for them. I ended up liking them A LOT, So I took it upon myself to ask if they wanted to do a project and they were down.
I have a few joints on their upcoming project. Then I’m producing their next one.
Are you guys going to link up, or do you work mainly through emails?
We have been talking about them coming down to Portland to record the project. Hopefully that will happen. I like to be around during the recording process.
How far in the future will that ball start to rolling?
Soon! Greg and I were actually talking about that earlier today. We want to have the project out by Feb.
What else have you been staying busy with?
I have a group that consists of myself and Frankly Esquire called Arcade Club. Frank Raps and helps co-produce. We’re working on that album pretty heavily. I got the #LeanTeam Project with DJ Fatboy getting ready to drop as well. Epp and I Just started an EP called NUMBERS. Then Just trying to get placements.
Where is Frankly Esquire from?
Chicago. He lives in Portland now though.
I’ll have to get familiar. If you had to bet all of your marbles on one rapper from Portland who will find the most success on a national scale, who would you bet on?
Honestly…It’s a Tie between Cassow, Captain, Blaze’, Frankly Esquire, Kung Foo Grip, and Jon Belz. They’re all dope in a different way. Lol, That’s a hard one.

Captain is more of an industry artist to me, so I’d say Cap.
