McNeely speaks toa group of volunteers

This is the last official Friday of summer for the kids here in Portland. Parents are ready to get their little munchkins out of the house and into a classroom, but some are not as prepared as others. We always hear about school supply drives and different businesses and organizations preparing kids with back packs and pencils. However, it takes a lot more than that to make sure a kid is ready for their first day of school. Namely, confidence.

Enter Charlie McNeely, a young woman determined to give kids that extra something they need. With the help of Candice Williamson, Breanna Jones, The Charles Jordan Community Center and a host of volunteers, Charlie put together Back 2 School FRESH. At the event, kids will be able to pick up school supplies, get haircuts and make-up, and win a bunch of pretty cool prizes.

The event takes place Tuesday September 3rd at 1pm. If you know of any kids who might benefit, bring them on down. There will be a bounce house, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, and music by DJ OG One. And if you have anything you’d like to donate, you can drop it off at the Charles Jordan Community Center over the weekend.

Check out the flyer for more info.
