First and foremost, if you’re in or around the 206 and you don’t wanna go see a show that has Avatar Darko & UGLY FRANK on the bill while Nacho Picasso hosts, you’re not with the shit. Having seen both Frank and Nacho in concert, I can assure you there will be moshpits, plus Nacho has fine groupies (and probably some upstanding beautiful female fans too). Just add some intoxicants and it’s all sorts of good times. So ya, go to Avatar’s Soviet Goonion 3 Release Party this Thursday at Neumo’s.
I can’t say I’ve ever been a big fan of Album Reviews. The idea of a professional critique or whatever they do has always escaped my comprehension. If I was smart I would create some kind of top 10 click through list, but that seems corny and I’m just not willing to do all that. So here is the project stream and below are my thoughts on some of the songs.
The third installment of Soviet Goonion pops off with a for sure banger in ‘Buck The FullShit’ (which has a Epilepsy enduring video as of yesterday) shit slaps. Then goes into some songs that I don’t personally dig so much because they sound like Don Cannon is yelling on them but they still will probably get slapped in the whip at 2am. I think my favorite tracks are ‘Nowhere to be Found’ (which took some time to grow on me) cause Avatar goes the fuck in, and ‘Half Lit World’, simply because its my type of song, story telling full of honest paradoxical realities. ‘Tricky Tricky’ is a slap for sure. In my opinion the best section of this project starts at ‘New Jack City’ and ending with ‘Sushi Boats/Soah’, there is not a single song that is skippable or that isn’t dope in that whole section. That’s just my stupid opinion after being with the project for about half a week.
All in all, whoever is doing Avatars A&R/picking his beats is KILLIN’ shit. I would tell anyone I know to get this project in a heart beat, and Avatar himself is smacking right now as far as choppin’ and making heart-on-his-sleeve honest music. Salute to his whole team. Download that joint from the stream and if you can make it to Neumo’s, find me and well do a shot and get live in the moshpit.
