Reports broke out about an hour ago that there has been a mass shooting on the campus on Umpqua Community College in the southern Oregon city of Roseburg. The tragedy quickly rose to the list of Twitter’s trending topics as user quickly began to debate gun control.
The number of victims is being reported as 12-15 dead and more than 20 wounded, although these numbers are obviously still in flux. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
Details are scarce. The shooter has been described only as male, and while police seem to have eliminated the threat, it is not clear whether he survived apprehension. According to Piers Morgan, this is the 137th school shooting in the US since Sandy Hook in 2012.
