“Stepping up the potency of my poetry” – Matty

Holler atcha boy!

Matty’s been putting in a ton of work since investing in his own studio two years ago. On “That Moment”, his fourth album, he shows massive improvement in all areas including beat selection, rhyme schemes, and presence on the microphone.

“Tried to be Jay Z knock it out the first time/Failed instantly never quit, Good sign.”

The album features Scarub of the Living Legends, Illmaculate, Okwerdz, Luck-One, Marvwon, Spac3man, Chandler Sanchez and more. He also has production from a few of Oregon’s finest such as Trox, Terminill, Tope, Goodwill and 9DM–as well as a few heaters from Chase Moore out of California. Shout out to Zebulon Dak for mixing and mastering the album and making sure it bumps when its suppose to.

The track Lost On You produced by Chase Moore and featuring Illmaculate and Marvwon is an absolute monster. Go support the album and probably skip to that track, and then Blast Off if you haven’t heard it yet, before listening to the album the whole way through.

Blast Off features Spac3man and Luckone. If you are familiar with Matty’s social media pages you have no doubt been asked to watch the video directed by V1Creative. Those familiar also know that Matty is a huge fan of Harry Potter so we thought we’d take the time to ask him a few questions about this summer’s movie selections.

You can check him out live this weekend. He’ll be in Salem at the Triangle Inn July 28th, in Eugene at John Henry’s July 29th, and in Bend at the Mad Happy Lounge on July 30th. Scroll down to see his complete summer schedule.

Thanks to Matty for taking the time for the interview. Stay in touch via his official website www.thisismatty.com.

And seriously don’t sleep on the album. Sometimes surprises are pleasant.

Favorite Transformer?

My favorite transformer would have to be Bumblebee. I mean, Optimus is cool but no one has your back like bumblebee HA. In all seriousness, I’m not THAT into transformers. I’ve seen all the movies and I am certainly entertained by them but I’m not a giant fan. So I will stand beside my original answer of Bumblebee.

Favorite Harry Potter movie?

I’ve been a HP fan since the first book came out (over 13 years). To me, the movies got better every time. Goblet of fire is a close second to Deathly Hallows Part 2. I’d have to go with Deathly Hallows Part 2, just because of the significance it had to me. I think it was the best made film but I may be biased haha. They are all great in their own way but I’ll have to go with Part 2 Deathly Hallows. (Best Book is Deathly Hallows, followed closely by Goblet of Fire).

3d or 2d?

This is difficult because I went to the midnight showing of HP in 2D because none of the other films had been 3D so I wanted to stay consistent. I’ve since then seen it in 3D as well and it was pretty good but not significantly different. As far as 2D vs 3D for other movies, it really depends on what the movie is. For instance, “Clash of the Titans” was awful in 3D but pretty good 2D. Movies like “My Bloody Valentine” was awesome in 3D . . it just depends on the movie to me.

Best summer movie release ever?

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Once again, I may be semi-biased because of how into HP I am, and I’m sure that there are tons of great summer releases in the past. I have to go with the recently released Deathly Hallows Part 2. haha

Favorite theater?

My favorite theater in Salem is Lancaster Mall Stadium 11. I’ve been to a few incredible theaters out of Salem though. There is one in the Mill District in Bend that was very cool and of course Bridgeport is nice. I actually haven’t been to the Cinebarre downtown yet, as much as I like to drink and watch movies haha!

Preferred movie snack?

Honestly, with how expensive candy and food is at the theater none of it. My movie snacks consist of McChicken’s and Fruit Punch Gatorade’s with Berry Ciroc Vodka in it. (Whatuptho Diddy). haha Sometimes I’ll hit Walmart and get the exact same boxed candy for $1 and take those in. (veteran move).

Favorite superhero movie?

That is a very difficult question. I’m going to have to go with The Dark Knight with Iron man 1 & 2 coming in second. Not much to elaborate with this one. Superman is cool but I liked the “Lois and Clark” TV series that was on in the 90’s with Dean Cane and Teri Hatcher. haha

Who would win in a fight between Superman and Harry Potter?

Harry Potter, hands down. I’ll fight someone that disagrees with me. LOL

Best type of liquor to sneak into the theater?

Like I said previously, my go-to move is a Fruit Punch Gatorade with Red Berry Ciroc. I’ve brought in Jager in the past as well.

Who would win in a fight between Gandolf or Optimus Prime?

Geeze, I’m going to have to go with Gandolf because he has magic but Optimus is not to be fucked with. haha

Worst movie you’ve paid to see this year?

This year? hmmm, that’s tough. I can tell you that “XXX” and “Epic Movie” are the 2 worst movies I’ve ever paid to see. This year, I didn’t really dislike any movies I’ve seen.
