Mitt Romney’s heavy spending in Florida helped him defeat Newt Gingrich in Florida’s Republican presidential primary. USAToday.com reports that Romney and his supporting group outspent the Gingrich Clan 5-to-1 in the state. With the victory, Romney regained his status as the GOP front-runner.

“A competitive primary does not divide us. It prepares us, and we will win,” Romney said.

This is a huge loss for Newt Gingrich, but he expressed doubt that Romney would be able to maintain this level of spending throughout the race.

“We’re going to have people power defeat money power in the next six months,” Gingrich said.

Ron Paul ignored Florida’s primary and spent time speaking to a crowd in Fort Collins.

The city of Portland is telling a homeless camp it needs to improve or disband. The city levied a $641 fine in January and plans another one tomorrow. The city plans to continue the fines–which will double in April.

Bureau of Development Services spokesman Ross Caron said, “They have tents set up where people are staying, and our determination is that is it a residential campground requiring a permit.”

Residents call the camp, “Right 2 Dream Too.”

“It’s been kind of neat for them,” said lot owner Michael Wright. “Some of them have found work, gone back to school, and they know where they’re going to spend the night.”

Wright said he doesn’t trust the city’s motivations. The lot use to be home for an adult bookstore, his primary business at the time. City inspectors found structural flaws and the building was shut down. Wright has owned the business since the 1980s.

David Allen Canterbury was sentenced today to 45-days in jail and a mental health evaluation. Last month, Canterbury joined the “Dark Side of the Force” and attacked  three customers inside a Toys R Us and then went outside of the store and began attacking police.

Police said he had a light saber in each hand and they were forced to tackle him to the ground.

Canterbury pleaded no contest to fourth-degree assault and told the judge he was already seeking mental health treatment.
