SXSW was once a place independent artists went to network with journalists, tour managers, promoters, directors, ect. Now, it is taken over by large corporations, all trying to out-swag each other in a music-industry-Big-Johnson contest. Every brand wants to have the biggest, baddest event that will dominate social media timelines.

For people making the trip, this means there is a lot of free shit to do.

(If you are in Austin, you should be following SouthByFreeNOMS, they’ve been doing a great job updating the world on all of the free food + drink spots–also follow us at WeOutHereNET, because we will be killing it for you guys also.)

I’m unfortunately going to be missing today’s Portland party and Cool Nutz hosting a show featuring Murs, J. Pinder and DJ Fatboy because of my flight schedule, but I will wake up in Austin tomorrow ready to go.

Thursday, March 15th,

So far I don’t have anything planned for the morning–other than coffee, cigarettes and Bloody Marys, but I’ll be running around all day catching Dark Time Sunshine at Kick Butt Coffee at 3pm, Luck One at Shangri La at 8pm, and Chicharones followed by Grieves and Budo at Malaia starting at 10pm.

Friday, March 16th

This year’s SXSeattle event doesn’t have the hip hop stage it did last year (I thought Sol was originally part of this year’s lineup though), but I’m looking forward to seeing all of the artists involved this year and catching Allen Stone’s set.

Schedule:

11am-1130am The Horde and The Harem
1140am-1210pm Fly Moon Royalty
1220pm-1250pm Don’t Talk To The Cops!
105pm-135pm Young Evils
150pm-220pm Brite Futures
235pm-305pm Pickwick
320pm-350pm My Goodness
415pm-5pm Allen Stone

After that I’ll be off to LRG’s sponsored Workaholic’s House Party, swag. If you aren’t yet familiar with Comedy Central’s show Workaholics, you need to stop being an idiot and get familiar. (Check out our interview with star and creator Adam Devine.)

I’m hoping to get there in time to catch Statik Selektah’s set, followed by Cool Kids, Curren$y and Freddie Gibbs.

Not exactly a NW related event, but LRG has been working with Sapient for a few years now so we’re all about showing them love.

Saturday

St. Patrick’s Day in Austin, you can do the math here. I’m planning on trying to work as little as possible, but I will be linking up with DJ Fatboy before his Thrasher Showcase with Kreayshawn at Scoot Inn. Other people in the line up include Mistah F.A.B, Dom Kennedy and El-P.

Looking forward to reporting back throughout the week.
