Huge thanks to Dizz and Luck for shooting us the first look at the leak off their album Critical Mass.
We caught up with Dizz this week, and this is what he had to say….
Yo!
Yup, yup.
How is your day going?
Crazy. lol.
Oh… Tell us more…
Been mixing tracks for the album, sent a couple in for mastering…Sounds more interesting than it actually is… Just another day at the office.
I’ll be honest, doesn’t sound very interesting. I’m Excited for this album though. You’ve been working on it for a while. What can we expect?
Hahaha, word. You can expect to be disappointed if you’re used to underground, boom-bap-style Luck-One. We just did whatever we wanted musically.
Excited to see him stepping out of his comfort zone. Was that something you had to encourage him to do? Or was it your collective plan from the beginning?
A little of both, but I knew he was ready to move in a slightly different direction, and just try something creatively different. This album definitely has a more pop sound to it…which some artists are usually afraid of trying. We had a lot of fun making the records though.
NW Hip Hop needs more fun. That is for sure. What do you do for fun Dizz?
I make beats and write hooks in my cave! lol. Nah now that I’m an #APM affiliate, I’m trying to travel a little more…just got back from Hawaii and I’m thinking I might hit up Vegas (for the first time ever) after the album drops.
I miss Vegas, I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up planning a trip after I get my life figured out. #APMGang all day also.
*throws up extremely complicated gang sign*
Lol! Do you have any other projects in the talks right now? Or production on upcoming releases?
Well, I was just talking to Tope at our video shoot about finishing our EP at some point. I also plan to eventually put out my own album if I can find the time. Mostly just producing, writing, and mixing records for other artists right now.
Do you have a “regular” job also? Or are you making ends meet with the music business at this point?
I moonlight as a ninja.
Hopefully you don’t run into the WOHM! Ninja. Dude is aggressive.
Hahaha naw, I have a day job…music is my passion, but it isn’t enough to pay the bills just yet. How many rappers you know with good credit? lol.
Don’t you have to have money to earn credit?
Bahaha damn. That’s why I make beats. Too many rappers. I could throw a brick out of my window and it would hit 12 rappers before it landed.
I rap better than a lot of them too. *straight face*
Me too. I need to start rapping again. You want to send me a beat on the love?
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that…but that’s a different discussion.
Haha. Do you watch any TV Shows?
I’m an HBO fanatic. It’s bad. I still watch The Sopranos and The Wire like they’re brand new shows. Right now I’m on that “Newsroom” show though.
I was stoked on Newsroom after waching the first Episode, and now I’m trying to decide. I’m ready for the new Boardwalk Empire season though!
They killed Jimmy! I probably just ruined that show for someone.
Still mad about that. Hopefully he comes back as a Zombie. And their bad if they haven’t watched it by now.
Seriously who hasn’t seen that? Great television. Thats about all of the TV that I can stomach though…I start to feel like I’m slowly being reprogrammed if I watch too much of that stuff. Message! *Keenan Ivory Wayans voice*
Haha. What about Breaking Bad?
I knew you were going to ask that. I’ve seen the first two episodes. I feel like the only person on the planet who doesn’t watch that show.
Yeah, It’s great. Not Boardwalk great, but great. Any final thoughts?
Yeah. I’ll just say that Critical Mass will be released soon, we’ve worked very hard on it, and we hope that people who are fans of our music enjoy it. Shout out to Tope, Epp, SPAC3MAN, Mica Parris, Errick Lewis, and Paul Lindsay for their contributions to the project. And #APM of course. All day. Swag.
