Yes, boys are allowed.

If you’re on the fence about attending Girl Fest NW, get off of it. The all-ages event featuring an all-female lineup of dope artists in the Pacific Northwest will be held at Lola’s Room at 8pm at The Crystal Ballroom. #OutHere

While its namesake might make the event seem exclusive to ladies, bringing males is more than acceptable, it’s encouraged. Girl Fest director Madison Sturdivant (and previous WOHM writer) encourages concert goers to come early, bring friends, and not to let the whole “feminist” thing intimidate you.

“The mission of Girl Fest is and always will be to create a space where men and women come together to appreciate the music being made by female artists in our region,” says Sturdevant.

Blossom, who graced the Girl Fest stage last year, is guaranteed to perform a smooth and soulful set. We’ve watched the siren literally “blossom” into a Portland hip-hop staple, as she’s shared the stage with a slew of rappers at various Portland venues in 2015. (And I’m patiently waiting for her new project to drop with EYRST). Her undeniable stage presence and enchanting vocals should make for a great representation of Portland R&B.

DodgrThe Last Artful, Dodgr has made impressive projects under Fresh Selects and EYRST music labels. For her Portland introduction, the LA native commanded a very engaged and enthusiastic crowd at the one year anniversary of #theTHESIS. If you were one of the unfortunate souls that missed her set, this Sunday brings another opportunity to hear her chameleon-like voice and see what all the fuss is about.

mannequinIn addition to Blossom and Dodgr, this year’s Girl Fest will also showcase indie-alt duo Hart & Hare, as well as a mixed media mannequin art series called “Free to Form” by Lex Casciato.

Now that the holidays are over and football is season coming to a close (our biggest condolences, Ducks fans), there’s no better time than now to start revving up for the onslaught of music festivals and concerts that are coming our way. And what better way to kick off concert season than with showing support for our region’s most burgeoning creative women. *Sigh* Oh live music, how I’ve missed you in my life.
