One thing I’m super adamant about is giving artists from all avenues the space to create. That’s why I’m so proud that We Out Here Magazine is once again sponsoring GirlFest – the brainchild of the one and only Madison Sturdevant – which serves to promote the musical works of women in our region, culminating in a multi-genre concert at Holocene.

While shows in years past have featured dope artists such as Blossom, Karma Rivera and the now-defunct Neka & Kahlo, this year’s line up brings some fresh faces to the fold. The well-known and highly profiled Gifted Gab, Wynne and Fritzwa will lead the way this coming Wednesday, providing big name recognition for hip-hop fans like me.

But that’s not all! Seattle singer-songwriter Paris Alexa is bringing her R&B sounds to town as well, boasting a huge following and a sound that seems to transcend her mere 19 years of age.  Trip-hop trio Sheers and Cumbia/Krautrock duo Dreckig round out the eclectic cast.

Sponsors for the event (aside from ourselves) include XRAY.FM and Vortex Magazine (who also help with TheTHESIS) as well as WomenWeedWifi, Jackpot Recording and Kill Rock Stars. And of course, men are more than welcome to attend! (Someone always asks.)

Your favorite WOHMers will be in the house as well, so come join us on a Wednesday night. You ain’t got nothing better to do. 7pm, $10. You got that. See you on the 10th! #OutHere
