I’d never heard of Portland rapper Jae but a random link click led me to his YouTube release Me and My Bish, which plays through like a jazzy new school nod to both The Notorious BIG’s Me & My Bitch and Common’s I Used To Love Her.
While creative and chill, the single’s video is somewhat middling but the sound of the music is pleasant and reaming with potential. Emotional and even poignant at times, Jae confesses his love for the difficult and often undeserving lady that is metaphorically hip-hop over clean production from Canis Major. While the plot has been used more times than that of Romeo & Juliet, it’s one of those that never really seems to get old. Kudos to the WOHM newcomer for stepping up to the challenge.
