Reluctant Muggles everywhere are polishing up their wands for the last time. After a decade of films, on July 15th 2011 the world’s largest movie franchise will come to a close.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 takes you on the rest of Harry, Ron and Hermione’s journey to search and destroy the remaining horcux’s of Lord Voldemort. 8.4 million Copies of Deathly Hallows were sold within its first day of release taking the title of the fastest selling book to date. No other book series has been able to establish a cultural phenomenon like this series has. Harry Potter’s smooth transition from page to screen is something that other series have struggled to compete with. Harry’s lowest grossing film, Prisoner of Azkaban, brought in $795.6 million worldwide something that the Matrix, Twilight and Narnia films have yet to accomplish.

Not only have these movies drawn kids to theaters around the world but they have inspired kids to pick up a book and read. Our generation was with Harry when he first discovered the Chamber of Secrets and when he first faced off with He Who Must Not Be Named. We grew up with Harry, Ron and Hermione and were able to live vicariously through all their years at Hogwarts. Wizards around the world will give this beloved story a proper send off by camping out in anticipation for Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. By dressing up as our favorite characters, attempting to play Quidditch and dining on Butterbeer and chocolate frogs we will try to show our gratitude for JK Rowling’s magical series.

Producer David Hayman was able to take three aspiring child actors and turn them into some of the most recognizable adults in the world. Daniel Radcliffe has proven that he is not a one trick horse by earning astounding reviews in both of his Broadway debuts. Radcliffe has also admitted that he would like to take a turn in the Directors chair at some point. Emma Watson not only succeeded as an actress but has pursued her education at Brown University. You can also expect to see her in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. After the last film wrapped Rupert Grint has stayed in front of the camera with lead roles in four upcoming films. With our favorite trio moving on with their careers fans have feared life without new Harry Potter material.

Fear not Muggle Folk, for Rowling has announced her new project, Pottermore. This website is a place for Rowling to release unpublished material on characters, places and objects of the Potter world. Featuring back stories of some of the most beloved characters and extensive questionnaires that sort you in to one of the four houses. Pottermore is a way for Rowling to keep everyone’s favorite boy wizard alive. There is no way around this bittersweet ending but at the London premiere Rowling assures us “Whether you return by page or big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”
