Macklemore tryna break the internet this morning. In a mind-numbing attempt to explain his own thoughts, feelings and experiences in regards to his own position in hip-hop, Seattle’s most commercially successful rapper goes deep on racism, talking at length about the actuality of white supremacy and the importance of supporting black industry and culture. Despite the widely collaborative effort, critics have gone wild, debating whether Mack’s understanding of the issues is enough and proving the point that while he continues to churn commercially, Mack’s in a “can’t please ’em all” type of situation.

I really don’t think people realize how many PoC Mack actually puts on… But I feel like at the end of the day, artists have to make their art, tell their stories, and speak their truths. It’s not about being right or wrong, it’s about creating something that others can relate to. It’s not about the fans who don’t get it, it’s about the fans that do.
